Pre-K Mad Science Topics (Ages 3-5)
Animal Friends - We’ll bring the wild kingdom into the classroom! Your kids will listen to the sounds that animals make; feel some examples of fur, scales, feathers and skin; identify different ways that animals move; and make some animal footprints. If you think your kids love animals, this class is for them!
Shapes and Structures - This class will shape the outlook of your preschoolers. Using felt boards and “magnatiles,” your kids will combine shapes to make 2-D pictures and 3-D structures. They’ll get to build and take home their very own structures made of cornstarch noodles and a little creativity!
Mad Mixtures - Exploration into the world of chemistry is the theme for this class. Through our Exploding Colors, Liquid Lasagna, and other experiments the children will gain an understanding of chemicals, chemical reactions and density. Then we’ll mix up a batch of play dough for them to take home!
Smoke & Bubbles - This workshop is really “cool.” Your kids will be mesmerized when we use dry ice to make bubbling potions, shivering quarters, popping corks, and a thrilling carbon dioxide shower. They’ll even learn that the “smoke” from dry ice tastes just like a soda burp!
Energy and Motion - Do you have energetic preschoolers? This hands-on program will harness their energy as they learn about … energy! Using springs, wind up toys, and tube racers, we’ll introduce Newton’s laws of motion and demonstrate that energy can be stored and put into action.
Mad Science Topics (Grades 1-5)
Robots! Paths to Power - Explore the discoveries and inventions that have made robots possible. From learning how robots light up to getting them moving with gears. After learning the fundamentals, we will experiment with different sources of energy and even get to take a hand-powered generator home. We will see how these energy sources affect the environment and how they compare with sustainable energy while thinking about future energy sources!
Mad Machines & Rockin’ Rockets - Spring into a medley of science! Learn about the Earth and its animal inhabitants, simple machines, rocketry, and chemical reactions; there’s something for everyone! Build and race a car, concoct creations with chemistry, analyze animal tracks and cap off the week with a rocket launch!
Underground Explorers – From Dinosaurs to Ancient Civilizations!
Learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long lost cities. Discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in everyday life. Study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history. Make incredible projects to take home, like an amber time capsule and antique coins from around the world!
Eureka: Launching with Legends - Discover the work of da Vinci, Edison, Tesla, and Benjamin Franklin and use what you learn to invent solutions to everyday problems. You’ll prepare a proposal and receive a patent certificate for your very own invention. Build your own catapult, and even launch projectiles off a large trebuchet! You’ll bring home countless cool inventions and a squadron of paper airplanes the Wright brothers would be proud of!
